Common oral diseases
The major diseases that cause poor oral health for people are:
- Tooth decay (holes in teeth)
- Gum disease (Periodontal disease)
Tooth decay and gum disease are both chronic (long-term) conditions. Meaning they cannot be cured, but need to be managed on a daily basis.
There are also a number of other mouth conditions.

While some influences on oral health we have little control over (eg age), there are definitely things we can do everyday which reduce the risk of disease in the mouth.
